Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and to my peers who have also taken the opportunity to complete the Longford and Fraser Leadership course.
This evening I’d like to tell you a little bit about my experience during the last year and some of the highlights of the program. Firstly, I can definitely tell you my favourite lesson was when we learnt about “Conscious Capitalism”. This means when we spend money, we should know where that money is going and make ethically responsible choices. For example, most famous companies hide the way they exploit land and people in developing nations just to make a profit. We learnt it is vital to know how a product is made before buying it, because we could be harming the environment or other human beings without even knowing it.
Secondly, let me tell you why I enjoyed the course so much. Every week, approximately 20 of us would hear about interesting facts, watch informative videos, perform roleplays of hypothetical situations like what we should do in difficult moments, and learn how to be confident without being arrogant. This showed me that it is much easier and better for everybody if we keep our cool and think rationally instead of being an agent of chaos. I also learnt how to communicate with others and I met some great people who helped me feel better about myself and about the future.
What I will take away from completing the course is an ability to face conflicts more positively and hopefully be able to avoid problems from becoming worse, and this will help me sustain relationships and become successful in my working life.
Finally, I’d like to thank Ms Anderson for making each week memorable and interesting, my parents for taking the time to bring me, here and back, every Monday, and my fellow students for working with me on these important life skills.
Thank you very much for listening to me, tonight. I wish you all a very good evening.
